Designer Contracts Opens The Doors To Wembley‑Sized Warehouse
Designer Contracts, the UK’s largest flooring contractor, starts 2024 with an open invitation to customers and suppliers to visit its 109,000 sq ft centrally located distribution facility in Kettering. It holds more than £3.5 million worth of stock.
Visitors can now arrange to tour the facility – bigger than Wembley Stadium’s football pitch – to see the scale and logistics behind the warehouse operation.
Designer Contracts is the only flooring contractor to operate on such a scale. As part of a recent £500K investment, the company installed additional racking, boosting stocks from £2.5 million pre‑pandemic to the current £3.5 level.
Said commercial director Louise Walters: “Our strategy has always been to invest heavily in significant stockholding levels – and given supply issues over the past couple of years, this has never been more important.
“It offers customers the reassurance of knowing that whatever else they might struggle to source, flooring needn’t be one of them. It also ensures competitive pricing and consistent availability across our entire range of carpet, vinyl, carpet tiles, laminate, safety flooring, vinyl tiles and wood.
“In the past, customers have often asked if they could see the Kettering distribution facility and we wanted to introduce that opportunity to all our business partners.”
Designer Contracts originally started in MD Peter Kelsey’s garage more than 30 years ago. Today it is the biggest player in its sector with regional centres established across mainland UK. In addition to floor coverings the company provides blinds and curtains, furniture and lighting, and operates a showhome design service division.
A supplier to Britain’s major national and regional housing developers, Designer Contracts also works with housing associations, the care home sector, educational establishments and other public sector buildings.
