David Greenfield Announced As CIWM's Next Junior Vice President

CIWM is pleased to announce the election of Prof. Dr David Greenfield FCIWM to the position of Junior Vice President (elect).

David brings a huge wealth of experience and expertise to CIWM across both waste management and the circular economy. A true industry leader, he currently holds a number of prominent positions, including:

Managing Director and Founder of SONECS, a research and innovation practice that focuses on Circular Economy Solutions, where he led or co-authored the Brighton & Hove and West Midlands Circular Economy Routemaps and the 2015 and 2021 CIWM Presidential reports.

Founding Partner of etsaW Ventures, a venture studio supporting circular economy start-ups innovate into game changing impact in the novel material and resource recovery field.

Co-Founder of Tech-Takeback, a not-for-profit using the ZeroNet on demand app to collect data erase and reuse or recycle over 100,000 end of life electricals in Brighton & Hove. Tech-Takeback won the 2021 Business Green Leaders award for Circular Economy and has been shortlisted for four National Recycling Awards.



Professor of Circular Economy at the University of Brighton, where he lectures across multiple facilities and works with academics to incorporate circular economy into the curriculum.

David said of his appointment: “I am delighted to be appointed to the CIWM Presidential Team as Junior Vice President (elect) during the Institution’s 125th year. David will formally take over the role of Junior Vice President from Tim Walker, who will become Senior Vice President, at the CIWM Presidential Inauguration in June this year.
