First Response Group Complete The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge For African Education Charity

First Response Group 3 Peaks Challenge - Whernside An intrepid team from Yorkshire based First Response Group (FRG), one of the leading names in the UK’s security and facilities management sectors, took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for charity partner, Education for Africa.

Led by FRG SHEQ manager, Michael Wormald, the 6-person team completed the gruelling 24-mile route in just over 12.5 hours, scaling 1500m of ascent up Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

FRG have been supporting Education for Africa for the past 18 months by sponsoring the school feeding programme at Isiolo Children’s home in Kenya. The school was established in 2013 with an aim of helping the orphans and the vulnerable children from the local community and its surrounding areas.

School Feeding Programmes act as an incentive for parents to enrol and keep children in school and better nutrition aids concentration, allowing the children to learn and perform better, expanding their educational opportunities.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge fundraising activity was staff initiated and grew from a discussion during an FRG Employee Engagement Committee Meeting. FRG has pledged to fund match total sponsorship raised from the challenge up to £5,000 to show its support for employees who give their valuable time to raising funds for charities.

Reflecting on the challenge, Michael Wormald said: “It was very tough, much tougher than we anticipated, but in true Team FRG fashion we stuck together and motivated each other, all completing the course as a team. Knowing our sponsorship will help give children in Africa access to good education kept us going.”

FRG Co-founder and Director Edgar Chibaka, an African immigrant, added: “I’m delighted the team took on this challenge to support such an important charity. Sub Saharan Africa has some of the lowest education rates in the world with 60% of the population over the age of 15 unable to read or write. The vital funds raised by Team FRG will help students have a brighter future”
