Mature Student Completes Apprenticeship At Well‑Known Hospital

Qube Learning Logo Gavin Taylor, from Darwen, is a prime example of how apprenticeships aren’t just for people at the start of their career but are a viable option for anyone looking to gain or expand skills in their line of work whilst earning.

Gavin started working with the Priory Group, in Kemple View, in May 1998 as a health care worker and worked hard to get to his current position of health, safety and security co-ordinator and is now a tutor in a number of different subjects. He was keen to progress in his career and so he eagerly accepted a Facilities Management apprenticeship with leading national training provider, Qube Learning who specialise in bespoke programme implementation within small, medium and large businesses.

Despite having been in his role for several years, the apprenticeship has helped Gavin gain more confidence. His understanding and skillset have increased hugely, and he can see the positive impact in his day to day role at the Priory Group.

Gavin Darwen Completes Apprenticeship At Well‑Known HospitalSpeaking about his experience Gavin said “I often thought that apprenticeships were for people who had just finished college but how wrong I was! The opportunity to learn whilst earning allowed me to feel fulfilled at work, and my family and friends have seen how happy it has made me outside of work too.” Gavin made a personal commitment to deliver high standards to the best of his ability in work and in his personal life to work on his fitness and nurture important relationships, goals that would keep him focused and optimistic about his future.

Although Gavin found it relatively easy to manage his time between studying and working, the maths and English tests were a concern as he was not confident in an exam setting. However, with perseverance and the support of the team at Qube, Gavin passed first time!

David Hardman Skills Tutor at Qube Learning said “Gavin is a brilliant example of how apprenticeships can be used to enhance someone’s professional talent and knowledge within a current role. He has worked with real force to achieve his qualification whilst juggling work and the learning aspect of the programme, his determination is admirable, and I know his growing understanding will benefit the wider team that he works with.

There is a vast range of apprenticeships available for people from all demographics, and especially in facilities management and not only do we work with the Priory Group we also work with businesses like OCS Group UK and more to help implement training programmes that change lives.”

Qube Learning is proud to be an OFSTED grade 2 (Good) training provider and works with hundreds of employers across the country to deliver a range of training and qualifications to a multitude of learners.
