‘Attention To Detail’ Key Theme For Fire Doors At FIREX 2024
Warringtonfire, the leaders in testing, inspection, and certification of the fire performance of construction products, is proud to announce its participation at FIREX, and as the Official Fire Door Partner, it is advocating for ‘attention to detail’ when specifying and installing fire doorsets.
Taking place between 2nd‑4th December, FIREX, now part of Anticipate London, is one of the most important fire safety events in the calendar. The exhibition will be held at ExCeL London, bringing together industry leaders and experts in fire safety and protection. Warringtonfire, part of the Element Materials Technology group, will be showcasing its expertise in fire door testing and certification at its stand, location FI1840.
This year, in its capacity as Official Fire Door Partner, Warringtonfire is urging all delegates to remain vigilant and give due care and attention when specifying and installing fire doorsets, given their complexity as a building product.
To help delegates better understand fire doorsets, Peter Barker, Technical Policy Manager at Element Materials Technology, will be hosting a session on the main stage.
Peter’s presentation, taking place between 3:30pm–4:00pm on Tuesday 3rd December and titled ‘Importance of Fire Resisting and Smoke Control Doorsets and EN Classification’ will delve into the critical role of fire resisting and smoke control doorsets in building safety.
Peter will explain the testing standards and classification processes, highlighting the differences between the European classification system (EN 13501‑2) and the British Standards (BS 476: Part 22 and BS 476: Part 31.1).
Discussing the presentation and why the company is exhibiting at FIREX, Peter said: “Fire resisting and smoke control doorsets have an important life safety role to play within buildings, by restricting the spread of fire and smoke through the building and safeguarding the means of escape.
“However, the specification of doorsets can be challenging as the supporting evidence can be fragmented which makes it difficult for the specifier to substantiate the performance of the doorset as a complete system and demonstrate compliance with the relevant part of the building regulations. Furthermore, it will be increasingly important for specifiers and manufacturers of doorsets to understand the EN classification system, as it is set to become the single standardisation regime given in Approved Document B for establishing the fire performance of construction products in England, from 2nd of September 2029.
“This is why we’re participating and speaking at FIREX. Our aim is to demystify these building products and give clarity on how to provide added assurance on the products performance from testing through to manufacture, installation and ongoing maintenance. Importantly we want to impress upon visitors that close attention to detail is required when specifying and installing these specialist construction products. This is so they can deliver a similar level of fire resistance and smoke control performance as was established when the product was tested to the relevant test standards.”
As well as the talk, visitors to the Warringtonfire stand will be able to meet their team of technical and certification experts to discuss their current projects, future test programmes, and certification objectives.
Warringtonfire is also introducing a series of ‘Tech Talks’ on their stand. Featuring a mix of technical talks and presentations on some of the main topics of interest to the construction and fire safety industries, such as the changing regulatory landscape, third party certification, and the performance of construction products in fire test conditions.
Warringtonfire will also have a dedicated area on its stand showcasing its new 104,000 sq ft Birchwood Park site. Visitors will be able to watch a detailed video tour of the fire resistance testing laboratory, with an interactive display to learn more about the benefits of the new facility, which is set to open on 2 January 2025.
The FIREX team expressed their delight in having Warringtonfire as the fire door partner, with Event Director Chris Edwards saying, “We are thrilled to have Warringtonfire on board as our Official Fire Door Partner. Their team’s expertise and commitment to fire safety are invaluable to the success of FIREX at Anticipate London.”
