New Face Recognition-enabled Intercom makes UK Debut

CIE, a leading distributor of audiovisual and security brands, is pleased to announce the UK launch of the R29C from Akuvox, one of the most advanced door intercoms available on today’s market. While conforming the general format of a conventional door entry intercom unit, that is where the similarity ends. In place of a traditional keypad, the R29C has a large, 7” full colour touchscreen that is attractive and easy to use. The unit also incorporates a secure infrared face recognition system that facilitates secure, hands-free operation, and further, an advanced QR code recognition system for organising temporary access for people such as delivery drivers and service engineers. With these features available as standard, the R29C is one of the most advanced intercom available on the market.

“Akuvox is a new brand in our security portfolio and we are really excited to be kicking off our relationship with the UK launch of the R29C,” commented Chris Edwards, Marketing Director of CIE Group. “It is a genuinely groundbreaking product that pushes the boundaries of intercom technology into new and emerging areas. These new features, such as facial recognition, are not a case of style-over-substance, but have been carefully developed in the interest of end-user benefit and functionality. Also, as with all Akuvox products, the key aim is to combine cutting-edge technology with value for money for the integrator and end-user, and we're looking forward to establishing the brand in the UK market based on this attractive value proposition.”

Akuvox is one of the leading worldwide brands for IP intercoms, access control and telephony equipment. Established globally, the company is expanding into Europe looking to deliver on its mission to improve people's lives with better communication, greater security and more convenience - all through its product offering. The R29C comprehensively delivers on this promise. Featuring the first use of infrared face recognition technology integrated into an intercom device, the R29C will automatically compare the visitor’s face with a database of enrolled faces and perform automatic match notification to grant access. The unit also embraces QR code-based access control for ‘one time’ access for external visitors. Typically, residents/building managers can generate a QR code from the Akuvox SmartApp for a visitor to use on their mobile device which will allow entry to the building (or specific area) on a limited use/fixed time basis.

The complete R29C authentication methods for ultimate security and flexibility are:

  • Secure infrared Face Recognition
  • QR Code (eg. for one-time access)
  • Touchscreen Keypad
  • Touchscreen Digital Phonebook
  • NFC, RFID and Bluetooth contactless via Smartphone, ID card or keyfob

The R29C Intercom is IP65 rated so can be used for external gate systems and high impact areas. This advanced door entry device also supports ONVIF open standard for effective integration with other 3rd party IP systems and devices such as IP CCTV cameras and NVRs.
