Working At All Levels

PTSG-Building Access Specialists working at height in harnesses at John Lewis PTSG is the UK’s leading provider of specialist services to the construction and FM sectors. Its five business divisions deliver a comprehensive set of services to its 20,000 customers, protecting their properties, places and people and ensuring their buildings remain compliant.

PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd began by offering a high-level cleaning service to customers mainly in London and the South-East. Through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions, it now stands as one of the industry’s leading providers of specialist building cleaning and maintenance services throughout the nation.

A significant proportion of the division’s work – and the Group’s work as a whole – is still performed at height. Therefore, PTSG’s directly employed engineers are trained and qualified in all the industry’s standard access techniques.

Rope access is widely regarded as the most effective means of accessing the façade of buildings. PTSG’s rope access engineers and steeplejack specialists are IRATA-trained and benefit from the organisation’s leading principles and practices. IRATA (the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) is recognised as the world’s leading authority on industrial rope access.

PTSG uses rope access, or abseiling, to undertake a range of cleaning, repairs, maintenance, decorations, structural engineering work and more. This technique enables specialists to move quickly, easily and safely from side to side and up and down to reach all areas of a building. Equipment can be set up and dismantled quickly and easily, and causes minimal disruption, saving valuable time and money.

John Lewis Shops With PTSG

PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd, via its steeplejack and rope access specialists headquartered in Edinburgh, recently completed a technically complex project to enhance the interior of John Lewis’ flagship store in Oxford Street, London.

John Lewis is a British brand of high-end department stores operating throughout the United Kingdom, with concessions also located in Ireland. From 1925 to 2022, the chain had a policy that it would always at least match a lower price offered by a national high street competitor; this pledge was known by the name “Never Knowingly Undersold”.

PTSG’s engineers completely repainted the internal escalators in John Lewis’ famous Oxford Street store. A five-man team of rope access engineers installed rope rigging from the internal roof structure, which allowed them to access all areas of the escalators.

PTSG’s engineers set up encapsulation areas to allow the scaling paintwork to be removed without impacting on any of the store’s items for sale. The escalators were successfully prepared and painted to both protect and enhance them aesthetically, providing an improved experience for shoppers and staff alike.

This project required immense attention to detail to avoid any interruption to business within the store. Work was carried out over a 20-nightshift period, enabling PTSG’s engineers to bring the project to completion within the agreed timescale, delivering an outstanding quality of workmanship, which was commended by the client.
